The Bobcat word for this week is DETERMINED.  DETERMINED means to give direction, to cause, or to decide.  I DETERMINED this would be a good example sentence.

IB MYP
Beville Middle School is an IB World School

The International Baccalaureate Organization has fully authorized Beville Middle School's IB programme. We are part the IB partnership with Gar-Field High School and Godwin Middle School. We proudly display the IB logo.
Beville IB MYP News and Announcements
IB Applications Now Available
The IB Applications for 2012-13 are now available on this page.  We will have a "whole school" programme in the sixth grade next fall.  We will still offer high school credit World Language and extended math for those who are ready to take the classes.  The programme will remain the same in grade 7 and 8.  Fred Lynn is beginning an IB programme, therefore we can longer accept new Fred Lynn students.  We welcome Saunders students to join Beville's programme next year.
Middle School Specialty Program Night
Beville will hold one “IBMYP Information Night” for those parents interested in hearing about the IB Programme and will have upcoming sixth, seventh or eighth graders in the 2012-2013 school year. The date for this meeting is Thursday, January 12, 2012 at 7 PM in the Beville cafeteria. The snow date for the meeting is Thursday, January 19, 2012.

Applications to all specialty programs will be accepted until February 15, 2012. If you have questions about the Beville IB programme, please contact Mrs. S. Johnson by email at johnsosl@pwcs.edu or by calling the school number (703) 878-2593.
Kerrydale Reading Pals Program
We are excited to work once again with Kerrydale Elementary School to help with their Kerrydale Reading Pals Program.  The Reading Pals Program pairs middle school students with elementary students who need additional exposure to the skills of reading.  Students who are interested in participating in the program and earning community and service hours are welcome to pick up a permission slip and information about the program from Mrs. Johnson in the front office or on the Community and Service Bulletin Board in the cafeteria.  If students participate every scheduled day of the after-school program, they will earn over 30 hours of community and service!  The program begins November 18.  Students must submit permission slips to Mrs. Johnson no later than November 16, 2011.
Parent Workshops
Parents who have students in the IB programme are invited to attend two more workshops, all of them will give very important information.  The workshops will cover the following topics:
December 1 - Understand MYP Assessment and Grade Reporting
January 24 - What is your Child's Future in IB?
The workshops will be held in the Beville cafeteria at 7 PM.  More information about each workshop is on the flyer found on this page (see below).  A paper copy is being sent home with each IB student.

Community and Service
Community and Service for this school year will be due May 11, 2012.  Students need to listen to announcements throughout the year, as well as check the "Community and Service Board" in the cafeteria for opportunities right here at Beville.  Students were provided a Community and Service booklet through their World Language classes. Don't have a booklet?  Booklets can be printed from this page under "department files" on this page.  A list of activities are also listed on this page under "What Can I Do For Community and Service?".
This year: 6th grade must complete 20 hours
7th grade must complete 25 hours
8th grade must complete 30 hours
Fifteen (15) hours can be participating in a sport or a club.  Babysitting is not considered community and service, unless it is through an organization.
